Since its founding in 1960, the Government Polytechnic in Bidar has a long and illustrious history. At first, the college provided three three-year diploma programs in civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering. At that time, the polytechnic's enrollment limit was 90 students. Additionally, the college offered one-year short courses in pump mechanism, motor winding, and workmanship.
With 30 students enrolled, the polytechnic launched an automobile degree in 1983 after realizing the necessity to accommodate several vocational disciplines. Then, in 1984, two additional courses—Telecommunication and Commercial Practice—were created, each with a 40-student maximum.
Since its founding in 1960, the Government Polytechnic in Bidar has made a significant contribution to the district's impoverished and students from disadvantaged backgrounds in higher and technical education.
Early on, the polytechnic was housed in a private structure in the historic district of Bidar. However, the institution bought land survey numbers 6, 7/1, 8/3, 8/4, 13, 14, 16, 17, 38, and 42 for the construction of its building after realizing the need for specialized infrastructure. The land purchase procedure started in 1960–1961, and 14 acres were eventually acquired. Additional purchases of 7.03 acres and 6.00 acres, respectively, were made in 1969 and 1973.
The first phase of payment was finished on September 1, 1960, giving the institution a total land size of 27.03 acres. 1.22 acres of the total area were still up for debate, and the institute used the remaining 26.21 acres. For Rs. 10 lakhs, a new structure was erected in 1964 on Bidar-Udgir Road, directly across from the General Hospital. The building's construction gave the polytechnic a dedicated space of its own to meet the needs of its student's education.
The Government Polytechnic in Bidar provides its students with first-rate housing options to ensure a positive academic environment. The college also places a high priority on offering well-stocked laboratories and workshops, making sure that students may access the supplies needed for hands-on instruction. Modern equipment worth Rs. 15 lakhs have been installed in the laboratories and workshops so that students can obtain practical experience and master skills related to their chosen disciplines.
The Government Polytechnic in Bidar has grown over time to become a significant educational institution in the area, empowering students and giving them access to possibilities for technical and vocational education. The school's dedication to meeting the needs of economically underprivileged children, together with its emphasis on practical learning and well-kept facilities, has helped to establish its reputation as a top educational facility in the area. The Polytechnic is committed to fostering talent, delivering high-quality education, and assisting in the development of the area even as it develops and broadens its offerings.
