The foundation stone of the college was laid by Late Dr. J.K. Sahu, the then Minister of Urban Development, Govt. of Orissa, on 15th August 1978. Initially named NAC College, Brajrajnagar, it was later renamed Brajrajnagar College, Brajrajnagar in accordance with the decisions of the Government of Odisha during the academic session 1983-84.
Over the years, Brajrajnagar College has achieved significant milestones. It received recognition and affiliation for intermediate courses in Arts and Commerce in 1978-79 and permanent recognition for intermediate courses in 1982. In the following years, the college expanded its offerings and became a permanent affiliated college under CHSE, Odisha for intermediate courses in Arts, Science, and Commerce. The college also attained recognition for undergraduate courses in Arts and Commerce during the academic session 1988-89. Furthermore, Brajrajnagar College was included under section 2 (f) and 12 (B) of the UGC Act, highlighting its commitment to quality education.
