The Bihar Agricultural College was founded in Sabour, Bhagalpur district, in 1945, marking the start of the state's agricultural education system. However, it quickly became clear that the South Bihar plateau region's agricultural circumstances and characteristics were very different from those of the rest of the state.
As a result, a second institution specifically serving this area became necessary. Ranchi Agricultural College, Ranchi Veterinary College, and Ranchi College of Forestry were all established in response to this need, starting in 1955, 1961, and 1980, respectively.
All this marking the beginning of Bihar's journey in agricultural education. The Ranchi Agricultural College, Ranchi Veterinary College, and College of Forestry are just a few of the colleges that have developed over time. The Rajendra Agricultural University was founded in 1971 with its main campus in Pusa due to the importance of agricultural education.
The late Indian Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi officially established Birsa Agricultural University on June 26, 1981.
Its main objective is to promote the development of forests, animal husbandry, and agriculture in Jharkhand's plateau region. The college's focus is on creating regionally appropriate technology and qualified professionals who can help advance the region's agriculture sector and economically uplift tribe and other lower-class groups.
Birsa Agricultural University seeks to advance development and increase wealth for those who live there by focusing its efforts on specific characteristics and needs of the region.
Campus include Six Directorates, each dedicated to a particular field of agricultural research and development, form the institution. These Directorates promote advancements in numerous agricultural areas as specialised centres of skills. In addition, the institution is home to three Zonal Research Stations and farms, which give students and researchers alike the chance to get their hands dirty and learn via practising. The university farm itself acts as a practical testing ground for agricultural methods and procedures.
The campus comes with necessary service facilities and infrastructure, such as an ATIC (Agricultural Technology Information Centre), Central Library, and Computer Centre. These tools make it possible for professionals, researchers, and students to do study, stay up to date on technical developments, and access the most recent information.
As a residential university, the campus offers several hostels for both male and female students. For professors, scientists, and support staff members, residential facilities are also available, offering a setting that is favourable for learning, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
