The Himachal Pradesh government created Abhilashi University near Chail Chowk in Mandi under the "Abhilashi University (Establishment & Regulation) Act, 2014". Under Sections 2(f) and 22(i) of the UGC Act, 1956, Abhilashi University is a government-recognized institution of higher learning with the authority to award degrees.
