The state of Assam at present is dealing with increased heatwave conditions. The high temperature has now prompted the authorities in Dibrugarh district to modify school timings. The decision comes in consideration to safeguard students from this extreme weather.

On September 20,2024 the Office of the District Elementary Education issued an order. It has announced adjustments to school schedules for the institutions affiliated with AHSEC, SEBA ,AICSE and CBSE. The purpose is to minimize the impact of the ongoing heatwaves on students.
As per the order, the schools will now begin at 8 in the morning. For assemblies, they will be held indoors with reduced durations. Schools are advised to make sure there is proper ventilation in classrooms. They are also asked to organize alternate power backups in case there is outages. Moreover, students are given permission to wear sandals instead of shoes and may forgo waistcoats or ties for comfort.

In addition, A local school driver also mentioned that schools had been closed earlier this year due to unseasonably high temperatures. "Usually, by this time, with Durga Puja approaching, it’s cooler. But this year, it’s still quite hot,” he said.

Assam is currently experiencing heatwave conditions. Temperatures have soared above normal, reaching 38°C in some areas. This early heatwave is unusual for Assam, which typically experiences cooler weather during this time of year.
