The Union Health Ministry clarified on Saturday that the counselling schedule for NEET UG and PG courses for 2024 has not yet been announced by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). The MCC, operating under the Directorate General of Health Services, will release the schedule after the completion of exam processes and finalization of seat matrices by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

In previous years, counselling for UG seats started on January 19, 2022, October 11, 2022, and July 20, 2023, respectively. For 2024, the NMC aims to finalize the seat matrix for UG and PG seats by mid-July and mid-August, respectively, with the MCC expected to announce the counselling schedule thereafter.

Amid calls for cancelling NEET-UG 2024 due to alleged malpractice, the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) informed the Supreme Court that cancelling the exam without substantial evidence of widespread breaches could harm honest candidates. The Supreme Court recently refused to delay the counselling process despite a petition seeking a pause.

In response to concerns, Subodh Singh was removed as NTA director general, and a new panel led by former ISRO chief K Radhakrishnan was appointed to ensure fair conduct of exams. While NEET-UG is under scrutiny for irregularities, UGC-NET was cancelled due to integrity issues, with investigations led by the CBI.
