Residential schools in Karnataka to be renamed as Maharshi Valmiki Schools

Karnataka government to rename residential schools as Maharshi Valmiki Schools, announced the CM on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti.

The Karnatka Chief Minister Siddharamaiah honoured Maharishi Valmiki on his Jayanti on Thursday, October 17,2024. He garlanded his statue at the Legislators’ House in Vidhana Soudha. He took the opportunity of the occasion to announce key initiatives to promote equality and empowerment for marginalised communities.

In a significant move, Siddaramaiah announced all the government residential schools in Karnataka will now be renamed as  'Maharshi Valmiki Residential Schools.' In addition the Raichur University will be renamed as 'Maharishi Valmiki University,’ incorporating  with efforts to honour the contributions of Maharishi Valmiki.

"Baba Saheb Ambedkar warned that equality will not come unless economic and social inequality goes away. If our government implements guarantees to give economic power to the poor of all religions, all castes, it is the BJP who opposes it. So the beneficiaries of the guarantees should give a proper lesson to the BJP. Don't be fooled by BJP's lies, give correct answer to BJP's lies. The promotion reservation implemented by us was upheld by the Supreme Court. It was first implemented by our government. It was our government that first introduced reservation in leases. The people of the country should understand this. Don't believe this just because I said so. Discern truth and falsehood. Dalit, backward and minority communities should develop the courage to speak the truth openly. This is our tribute to Maharishi Valmiki," the minister stated.

Reiterating the message of social reformer Dr BR Ambedkar, Siddaramaiah highlighted the importance of tackling both economic and social inequalities.

The minister then mentioned about various government initiatives which includes:

-Gurha Lakshmi Scheme- It will provide Rs 2,000 per month to over 1.21 crore women heads of households.

-Guru Jyoti Scheme – It will offer free electricity to 1.40 crore households.

-Yuva Nidhi Scheme – It will assist 1.82 lakh unemployed graduates and diploma holders with financial aid.

These initiatives focus on providing financial stability to families and make sure the social and economic upliftment of marginalised communities. It will fulfil the constitutions vision of equality.
