For 2024, the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NIT-K), formerly known as Surathkal, had a drop in its National Institution Framework Category (NIRF) rating. It has achieved 17th place with a score of 64.27 in this year's rankings. The institute dropped from 38 to 46th place overall in the standings this year.

Since its inspection, the Institute has offered a variety of courses in areas such as chemical engineering, chemistry, civil engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, information technology, electronics and communication engineering, and mathematical and computational sciences. It also offers specialized courses in these areas.
