One of the several NITs created under the Indian NIT Act is the National Institute of Technology Meghalaya, or NIT Meghalaya. Even though the Institute was founded in 2007, it has never been placed in the top 20 or top 40 of the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF). Only the engineering category was available for NIT Meghalaya to rank under in the NIRF rankings 2024. In the NIRF 2024 engineering rankings, it was ranked 72 last year and 68 this year. The Institute's ranking in the Indian Rankings 2024 was 49.82.
In NIRF 2024, The institution failed to rank in other categories – research, overall, innovation, or architecture. In addition, it took a while to create a global reputation and was left off of the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education (THE) Ranking 2024.
The Institute's ranking in 2024 is 71.91 for teaching, learning, and resources (TLR), 32.09 for research and professional practice (RPC), 60.88 for graduation outcomes (GO), 60.89 for outreach and inclusion (OI), and 3.49 for perception (PR) out of a possible 100. The Meghalaya-based institute scored 67.55 in TLR out of 100, 20.62 in RPC out of 100, 53.37 in GO out of 100, 61.24 in OI out of 100, and 3.79 in PR out of 100 within engineering category 2023 in the NIRF rankings from the previous year.
NIT Meghalaya was placed 60th and 72nd in 2022 and 2023, respectively. NIT Meghalaya's drop in rank from 60 in the NIRF 2022 to 72 in the 2023 engineering ranking can be attributed, in part, to lower scores in the OI and GO categories. In the 2024 NIRF engineering ranking, OI scores decreased by one point, while GO scores rose to 60.88 from 53.37 in 2023.
Even in basic science, engineering, and humanities and social science programs, candidates can earn a doctorate (PhD) from NIT Meghalaya.
NIT Meghalaya is ranked 68th in the NIRF 2024 Engineering category.
NIT Meghalaya improved its rank from 72nd in 2023 to 68th in 2024.
No, NIT Meghalaya did not rank in other NIRF categories such as research, overall, innovation, or architecture.
The drop was mainly due to lower scores in the Outreach and Inclusion (OI) and Graduation Outcomes (GO) categories.
Yes, NIT Meghalaya offers PhD programs in basic science, engineering, and humanities and social sciences.
