The case of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) will not be heard by the Supreme Court today. On September 20, a three-judge panel led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and comprising Justices Manoj Misra and JB Pardiwala heard a case pertaining to the standardization of marks, answer keys, and medical entrance test results.
Students have expressed issues with the National Board of Examinations for Medical Sciences (NBEMS) normalization procedure and results transparency. September 7 was the date of submission, and on September 13 it was heard. Ishika Jain and others have filed a plea seeking the release of the NEET PG 2024 answer keys, question papers, and standardization of marks because the test was divided into two sections. The goal is to ensure transparency in the selection process.
An NBE official previously told that it can be challenging to come up with new questions because medicine includes so many specialized and complex fields. This was in response to a question about why NBE never gives answer keys. Advocate Tanvi Dubey and Senior Advocate Vibha Datta Makhija, who are representing NEET PG applicants, asserted that NBEMS made impromptu modifications to the exam format.
Instead of the customary single-shift approach, NEET PG was administered in two shifts this year. On August 11, the exam was offered in two shifts: from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Board was forced to implement a normalization process when the new system was put in place.
According to the official NBEMS notification, "NBEMS has adopted the process currently used by AIIMS-New Delhi for its various examinations conducted in more than one shift, including but not limited to INI-CET, in preparation of the result for NEET-PG 2024."
The case concerns the transparency of the NEET PG 2024 results, including issues with the normalization process, answer keys, and score standardization.
Ishika Jain and others filed the plea, seeking the release of answer keys, question papers, and the standardization of marks.
NEET PG 2024 was administered in two shifts due to an impromptu change by the NBEMS to accommodate the large number of applicants.
NBEMS adopted a normalization process similar to that used by AIIMS for exams conducted in multiple shifts, such as INI-CET.
The students are requesting the release of NEET PG 2024 answer keys, question papers, and clarification on the normalization process to ensure fairness.
