Following the postponement news of the NEET PG 2024 exam which was initially scheduled to commence on June 23, Abhijat Sheth the president of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), declared that the new exam schedule will be issued next week after a review meeting between NBEMS officials and the Union Health Ministry to assess the situation and receiving a feedback by the government the decision was made.
The delay is due to increasing controversy over alleged issues in the NEET-UG exam conducted on May 5. Sheth reassured that the integrity of the NEET-PG exam has always been upheld, highlighting seven years of successfully administered exams. Nevertheless, recent concerns from students led the government to review the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and protocols to ensure the examination's integrity, safety, and security.
Addressing warnings and fraudsters on social media, Sheth stressed the need to protect students from misinformation. He noted that the review meeting concentrated on the processes for computer-based exams and the feedback received by the government, instructing the examination body and its technical partner, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), to rectify any issues.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Education has established a high-level committee of experts, headed by former ISRO chairman Dr. K Radhakrishnan, to suggest reforms in the examination process, improve data security protocols, and enhance the National Testing Agency's (NTA) operations. The committee is expected to present its report within the next two months.
