The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 will be implemented in the state's government and private schools starting in the upcoming academic year, according to the Nagaland State Level Education Committee (SLEC). Additionally, the SLEC made decisions about government school merging, downgrading, and obligatory prior permission for the establishment of private schools in the state.
According to a statement released by the School Education Department on Friday, a number of important decisions were taken at a recent SLEC meeting that was presided over by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who is also the Minister-in-charge of School Education and SCERT and the Chairman of SLEC.
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020's new 5+3+3+4 educational framework was accepted by the committee. It will be implemented in government and private schools starting with the 2025 school year.
The SLEC established a committee to create the required framework in order to approve the creation of the Nagaland Education Service. The SLEC also required private schools to function under the supervision of registered societies and obtain prior clearance from the Education Department prior to opening.
In addition, the SLEC authorized the conversion of a government primary school in Ikishe village to a middle school and the advancement of six government middle schools in the districts of Kohima, Dimapur, and Mon to government high schools.
The merger of the middle schools from 16 GMS and 16 GHS, which would have been renamed GPS, was also accepted at the meeting. It also approved of the merger of 20 GPS and GMS schools into GMS and GHS, respectively.
The SLEC also approved the closure of at least 17 GPS schools that had no students enrolled. These included two in Wokha and Zunheboto districts, nine in Peren district, and one each in Chumoukedima, Phek, Mon, and Tuensang districts. These closed schools' teachers will be transferred to other local schools. Along with creating the Nagaland State Quality Assessment and Accreditation Framework (SQAAF), it has also chosen to establish the State School Standards Authority (SSSA).
NEP 2020 will be implemented in both government and private schools starting from the 2025 academic year.
Nagaland is adopting the NEP 2020's 5+3+3+4 educational framework.
Private schools must operate under registered societies and obtain prior permission from the Education Department.
Schools with no students, such as those in specific districts, will be closed, and their teachers will be reassigned to other local schools.
Nagaland will establish the State School Standards Authority (SSSA) and the State Quality Assessment and Accreditation Framework (SQAAF).
