The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has declared to postpone the Maharashtra Gazetted Civil Services Combined Preliminary Exam previously scheduled for August 25, 2024 amid protests from aspirants.

Candidates have been protesting at Lal Bahadur Shastri Road since Tuesday night, demanding a different date over the date clashing with Indian Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) exam.

MPSC conducted meeting with student group on Thursday before declaring their decision in the X (twitter) post. MPSC stated “The meeting held today with student group, concludes with a decision to postpone the Maharashtra Gazetted Civil Services Combined Preliminary Exam, the new date shall be announced soon.”

Even after the announcement, the candidates were not fully satisfied with the decision made by MPSC. They would continue with their agitation till their main demand for the inclusion of 258 agricultural department posts in the MPSC exam.  

The protest has gained political momentum, as Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar threatening to join the protest if the government failed to make its stand clear on the matter.

He also posted on X on Wednesday night stating “It is the responsibility of the state government to consider the interests of the students taking the MPSC exam … However, it seems, the rulers are not taking it seriously. if the government does not clarify its stand, I will go to the agitation venue and take part in the agitation to ensure justice for the candidates.”

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated “Yesterday I requested the MPSC and I am very obliged to the chairman and members for taking a decision in the interest of the students.”
