More medical colleges to open in UP after the approval of Union Health Ministery

The Uttar Pradesh Government has now 5,150 government and 6,050 private MBBS seats .
The Union Health Ministry has approved the beginning of MBBS programmes at five newly established medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh. The official sources confirmed.

Moreover, the seat capacity at medical colleges in Kanpur ,Dehat and Lalitpur has increased from 50 to 100. The move is part of efforts to expand medical education and healthcare infrastructure in the state.
This has led to adding of new MBBS seats , raising numbers to 600 MBBS seats , now the new count in state is 11,200 for this academic session, 2024-24. As per the statement issued.

The Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath discussed with the Union Health Minister, JP Nadda. Post the discussions, the principals of college filed an appeal with the National Medical Commission (NMS). Which resulted in the recognition of the seven medical colleges.

DG Medical Education, Kinjal Singh, stated “The department recently submitted an appeal to the Union Health Ministry requesting approval for 100 MBBS seats at autonomous state medical colleges in Auraiya, Chandauli, Gonda, Lakhimpur Kheri, and Kaushambi. We also sought permission to increase the MBBS seats from 50 to 100 at Kanpur Dehat and Lalitpur. As a result, the ministry has granted approval for 100 MBBS seats at all these medical colleges.”

 Previously, the state had applied for 13 new medical colleges.The seven district that got permission Bijnor, Bulandshahr, Kanpur Dehat, Kushinagar, Lalitpur, Sultanpur and Pilibhit.  but for 6 of them the application was rejected, however after the appeal to the Union Health Ministry , the five colleges got the approval.

The state government is working towards the goal of one district one medical college and under it, 14 more colleges will start soon. As of now, the state has 70 medical colleges while some districts have more than one.
