Ministry of Education launches the portal for National Awards to Teachers

The Secretary of Higher Education Sanjay Murthy and Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) T G Sitharam launched the portal for nominations for the National Awards to Teachers (Higher Education) 2024 on May 22, 2024.

The Ministry of Education has recently launched a portal for the National Awards to Teachers 2024. Awards will be conferred upon teachers of technical and non-technical higher education institutions and Polytechnic Institutions.

Teachers from the following disciplines will be conferred 

- Engineering and Technology

- Architecture 

- Pure Sciences, Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences

- Medicine

- Pharmacy

- Arts and Social Sciences 

- Humanities 

- Languages 

- Legal Studies 

- Commerce and Management

The last date for submissions of nominations is June 20, 2024. The awardees will be commended on the occasion of Teacher’s Day (September 5, 2024) to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr S Radhakrishnan, former President of India, and an exceptional teacher.  

The National Award is open to all the faculty members of colleges, universities, higher education institutions, and polytechnics in India.

 

Eligibility Criteria for the award are as follows:

- The nominee should be a regular faculty member

- They should have at least 5 years of full-time teaching experience UG/PG level

- They should not be above the age of 55 years as of the last date of applying 

- Vice Chancellor, Director, or Principal (regular or officiating) are not eligible

 

Nomination Procedure:

- Self-nomination (Singular basis)

- Former or existing Vice-Chancellor/Director/Principal/Faculty Member/Colleague of the same University/Institute/College/Polytechnic, where the nominee holds regular employment. Earlier nominee/nomination is eligible for re-nomination.

The purpose of the National Award to Teachers 2024 in Higher Education Institutions is to recognise the distinctive contributions of some of the finest faculty members in the country and honour them for their dedication and hard work, particularly in teaching and pedagogy, and its impact which has not only improved the quality of higher education but also enriched the lives of their students. The Award seeks to recognise and honour the unique and path-breaking achievements of faculty members in teaching-learning, community outreach, institutional service, research, and novelty of work in the field of higher education.

Additionally, they should not be above 55 years of age as of June 20, 2024. Vice Chancellors, Directors, and Principals (both regular and officiating) are not eligible for nomination.
