Lt Governor approves 200 additional PGT positions for boosting the quality of education at the secondary level across the Delhi Government schools.

Towards an initiative to strengthen the education sector, the Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has approved the 200 additional Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) position in the Delhi Government schools. The announcement was made from Raj Niwas on Saturday, October 12 ,2024 through a statement.

The new approved posts will be addressing to the needs of secondary and senior secondary standards under the Delhi Directorate of Education. The positions will be under the pay matrix level 8. It will offer a salary range of Rs 47,600 to Rs 1,51,100. The development aims to improve the quality education in the capital’s government schools.

The effort seeks to deal with the concerns of favouritism, corruption, reservation violations and employee harassment which are related to the non-permanent roles as mentioned by the lieutenant governor’s office.

Currently more than nine thousand children with disabilities (CwD) are enrolled in classes 9 to 12 in the Delhi Government Schools.

In addition, the goal is to address the shortage of special education teachers. At present there are only 283 PGTs for Special Education are employed falling short of the 301 sanctioned posts. Which has left several students underserved. Irrespective of 609 government schools in the capital dealing with the Children with disabilities (CwD) at secondary level, the shortage has led to several challenges and difficulties in meeting with the inclusive education the statement mentioned.

The newly approved positions will boost the current workforce, it will make sure the government’s policies of inclusive education are implemented effectively. Also, they align with the Right to Education Act 2009, the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, and the National Education Policy 2020

The decision comes after a collaborative assessment process organized by the Directorate of Education in consultation with the administrative reforms, planning and finance department of the Delhi Government as stated in the announcement.
