One of the special departments of the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR), which is housed on the campus of Saharanpur, is the Department of Polymer and Process Engineering (DPPE).

In the fields of chemical engineering, process engineering, polymer science, and polymer engineering, the department conducts basic and applied research.

The Polymer Science and Engineering department at IIT Roorkee offers a four-year, eight-semester Bachelor of Technology (BTech) curriculum. Basic yet crucial ideas in mathematics, information technology, chemistry, and chemical engineering are covered in this curriculum.

Thermodynamics, mass transfer, energy balance, and other concepts related to chemical engineering are also taught as instruments to aid in the correct comprehension of the intricacies of polymer processing.

After completing this course, a student will be an expert in understanding the macro and molecular properties of polymers, giving them the skills necessary to determine applications for the material.

They will also have sufficient knowledge of machinery and polymer processing to properly design and test applications, making a significant contribution to this era of polymers.

IIT Roorkee programmes

- PhD in Polymer Science and Engineering

The Department at IIT Roorkee offers a rigorous Polymer Science and Engineering PhD program, combining advanced coursework with research experience. It offers the students next-generation research in a broad spectrum of multi-disciplinary technological areas.

The program is designed to produce world-class graduates who can apply fundamental knowledge of Polymer and Process Engineering to solve academic and industrial problems related to polymers and material science in general.

Advanced training on pertinent research issues is required of PhD candidates, and they conduct research under the guidance of academic members with substantial worldwide experience in the field. The program culminates with a scientific thesis defense in front of a panel of experts in the field.

Polymer Science and Engineering M.Tech

The Department of Polymer and Process Engineering offers a two-year, full-time postgraduate program called MTech in Polymer Science and Engineering. The program's goal is to generate top-notch graduates who can use their foundational understanding of process engineering and polymers to address polymer-related issues in both academia and business.

The project and instruction are created with the demands of the industry in mind. There are 22 students enrolled right now. Students enrolled in the MTech program receive instruction in both fundamental and applied knowledge.

Combination Dual Degree

After their third year in BTech programs, students have the option to transfer to any MTech program whose prerequisites are met by their BTech branch.

A minimum CGPA of 7.5 at the conclusion of the third year and the approval of the relevant Departments' DAPCs are prerequisites for the conversion. Under the Integrated Dual Degree programs, students who successfully complete the course will receive matching BTech and MTech degrees.
