IIT Madras to introduce courses in Mathematics and B Ed

IIT Madras has announced to launch a BS.c programme in Mathematics focusing on producing well trained professional teachers every year.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has declared the launch of courses in Mathematics and B Ed.  A BS.c programme in Mathematics has been decided to launch, aiming to produce minimum of 500 well-trained Mathematics teacher every year. A new initiative by IIT Madras supports its overall goal of education excellence, strengthened by its top ranking in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024.

IIT Madras Director expressed his appreciation to 11,000 students and faculty for their tireless efforts and commitment to excellence. He also stated that the ranking shows the institutes strength in various areas, including graduate and PhD output, demonstrated by achieving 30 percent female representatives promoting gender equality. For the sixth consecutive year the institute has bagged the top position once again in the overall category and maintained its first rank in “Engineering” category for the ninth consecutive year.

The institute also secured second place in NIRF in the research category, as announced by the Union Ministry of Education. The Director expressed his gratitude to students, staffs, alumni and both state and central governments. he pointed out that institute has more focused on advanced courses in medical sciences, AI and data analytics. 

The sports excellence campaign has revolutionised the way for IIT Madras, as five noted student athletes who are national champions in various sports got an opportunity to study in this institute. The director also mentioned that "Initiatives like these were indirectly been a reason for us to secure the top ranks".
