IIT Madras Offers Biological Engineering Program

The Department of biotechnology encompasses four major domains: Biological Sciences, Biomolecular Sciences, Computational Biology, and Biological Engineering fostering a holistic understanding of biotechnology.

It offers two distinctive five-year dual degree programs in Biological Engineering (BTech and MTech) and Biological Sciences (BS and MS). Both the programs feature four years of academic coursework and a final year research project required for Master’s Degree.  The rigorous research training enables students with essential skills to secure employment in biotechnology sector. The undergraduate curriculum at IIT Madras emphasize flexibility, allowing students to explore various stream specialisations with each program.

The Biological Engineering Dual Degree offers broad based curriculum, that integrates solid foundation for the application of engineering principles to biological systems.  The program focuses on essential courses in basic sciences, engineering and molecular bio sciences, with stream specialisation in different areas such as bioprocess engineering, biomedical engineering and computational biology.

The Department of Biotechnology at IIT Madras offers Master of Science (MS) by research, and Doctor of Philosophy (PHD) programmes. The department also offers MTech in clinical engineering and MTech program in Bioprocess Engineering.
