IIT Madras hosts the first pan IIT summit on October 26-27,2024.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras organized its first-ever ‘Pan IIT Student Governance Summit’ on October 26 -27 ,2024. The milestone event provided a partnership platform for students and leaders alike, across the IITs to interact, exchange ideas, best practices, addressing the concerns and challenges faced by Higher education students today.

The aim of the summit was to boost strategic dialogue, empowering students to lead transformative changes in their institutions and strengthen the collective impact of student governance across the IITs.

Professor V Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, appreciated the event saying, "Effective governance is essential for any institution. This summit has fostered unity amongst student representatives, creating valuable synergies to tackle key issues on IIT campuses. The recommendations from this summit will be taken seriously by the administration."

In addition the event involved expert-led sessions on concepts such as Sustainable Campus policies, Academic standard ,research ecosystem development, student mental health and wellbeing.

Moreover, discussions on UG Placement policies, Research Infrastructure and strategies for cultural and technical festivals. Professor Sathyanarayana N. Gummadi, Dean of Students at IIT Madras, emphasised the significance of the summit, remarking, "This event is a milestone in empowering student leaders with tools and insights for effective governance that will benefit campuses nationwide."

Student Convenor Atharv Joshi shared his perspective, he said, "This summit created a unique platform for student leaders from all IITs to collaborate, share ideas, and shape the future of governance within our institutions." The gathering inspired actionable strategies for improving the student experience, building long-term networks amongst leaders, faculty, alumni, and stakeholders to support ongoing collaboration and knowledge exchange across the IIT community.

IIT Madras has achieved the #1 NIRF ranking for the past five years. It is due to its consistent efforts in bringing changes in learning and initiatives like this. The summit promoted discussions and interactivity among the IIT Students.
