The 'Sports Excellence Admission' (SEA) program was initiated by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) for the academic year 2024-2025. The institute will provide two supernumerary seats - one reserved solely for female students, in each of its undergraduate programs for Indian nationals as a result of this effort.
The nation's first IIT to accept athletes for admission to its undergraduate programs is IIT Madras. Additional information can be found on the website jeeadv.iitm.ac.in/sea.
The goal of this program is to honour and recognise gifted kids who have achieved success in athletics. Through this initiative, worthy children are encouraged to continue excelling in their sports and pursuing further education.
A student applying through SEA must be eligible for JEE (Advanced), although they will do so via a different portal run by IIT Madras that was introduced on June 11, 2024, rather than the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) platform.
Candidates who have won at least one medal in any national or international sports competition in the previous four years and have obtained a spot on the Common Rank List (CRL) or category-wise rank list in the JEE (Advanced) 2024 are encouraged to apply.
A distinct "Sports Rank List" (SRL) will be created in accordance with the applicants' cumulative score as determined by their performance in a particular set of sports. This list will serve as the basis for seat allocation.
In addition to research facilities, IIT Madras offers a plethora of sports-related electives and cutting-edge sports infrastructure. One example of this is the Center of Excellence in Sports Science and Analytics (CESSA), which offers top-notch instructional and sports science courses. Along with this, it is creating sports coaching goods for coaches and students through a variety of strategic partnerships.
The SEA program is a new initiative at IIT Madras that offers undergraduate admissions to students who excel in sports. This is the first program of its kind for any IIT in India.
You must be an Indian citizen. You need to have qualified for JEE (Advanced) 2024. You must have won a medal in a national or international sports competition in the last four years.
Two supernumerary seats (extra seats) are available in each undergraduate program at IIT Madras. One of these seats is always reserved for a female student.
Students are ranked based on their JEE (Advanced) score and their sports achievements. A separate "Sports Rank List" will be created for this purpose.
You can find all the details about the SEA program, including the application process, on the IIT Madras website: jeeadv.iitm.ac.in/sea
