The Indian Institute of Science, (IISc) Bangalore in partnership with the Shriram group, will build the Shriram Group RT Chair in Computation Mechanics as the institute. The Chair will be honoured to distinguished faculty conducting frontier research in computation mechanics. The goal is to support cutting-edge research in computation mechanics, including several fields within , such as mechanical, electronic, electrical and computational sciences.
The appointed Chair at the Institute, , would be a distinguished faculty member at the associate or full professor level , who will work on a research whose application will use computational methods to address the real-world concerns.
Highlighting about the partnership, Umesh Revankar, Executive Vice Chairman, Shriram Finance, said, “With RT Chair in Computational Mechanics, we plan to foster innovation and advance knowledge in fields that are critical to both academia and industry. The initiative underscores The Shriram Group’s commitment to driving progress through research and contributing to India’s academic landscape.”
The aspects of research may include the development of numerical methods, data-driven modelling of physical phenomena, and the exploration of upcoming computing paradigms like quantum computing as stated in the press release.
The collaboration aims to benefit the academic community. It will pave a way for practical applications and also inspire future generations of researchers and professionals to excel in the sector of computational mechanics.
The endowment will offer ongoing support for the Chair appointee’s research programmes and activities. It involves, organizing workshops, lecture series and academic exchanges. Its goal is to facilitate collaborative interactions by visiting scholars and experts related in the field.
