IGNOU grabs rank 1 under the open universities category

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) list was released on August 12, 2024. The rankings were based on the following parameters 

  1. Teaching learning and resources
  2. Research and professional practices
  3. Graduation outcomes
  4. Outreach and inclusivity
  5. Perception

This year NIRF introduced three more categories, open universities, skill universities, and state-funded government universities.

IGNOU bagged the top position, followed by Netaji Subhash Open University (Kolkata) in second position followed by Ambedkar Open University (Ahmedabad) in third position.

IIT Madras yet again bagged the top position under the overall category and engineering category as well. 

The Hindu College surpassed Miranda House for the top college spot. Miranda House has been on top for the past seven years, however this year they have to settle for the second position. The third position was bagged by St. Stephens's College. Delhi University's college dominated the top 10 college list. It also included Atma Ram Sanatan Dharm(ARSD) College and Kirori Mal College(KMC) in the list.

The NIRF ranking was begun by the NDA Government in 2016. NIRF is a ranking methodology adopted by the Ministry of Education. The rankings were given to higher educational institutions to promote healthy competition. NIRF has 13 categories, including law, engineering, medical, pharmacy, and agriculture. The list was released on August 12, 2024. IGNOU bagged the top position in the Open University category, which was introduced this year along with two other categories.
