HP to restrucuture SCERT and DIET

The Himachal Pradesh State government plans to restructure SCERT and DIET and focus more on quality education and sports.

On September 17,2024, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated that the state government is planning work towards improving the State council of educational research and training (SCERT) and district institutes of education and training (DIET) to develop their functioning with the aim to offer students with quality education. It is a government institution that provides educational support and resources to schools within a district. It offers teacher training programs, leadership development, curriculum support, and resource centres to enhance the quality of education.

During the meeting of education department, the chief minister said that the surplus mind-day meal workers, as a effect of the merger of schools would be adjusted preferably to the nearby schools and their services would not be terminated.

In addition, the state government is trying to work in the sports infrastructure in educational institution as well and students in the age group from 6 to 14 will also get to participate in under-14 tournaments. There will be different tournaments for students in the age group of 6-11 to provide them with the appropriate platform in primary school stage he stated. The chief minister also mentioned that the government has issued instructions to devote at least 15 minutes each day for physical exercise in all the schools across the state. In order to promote sports and support athletes, the state government had also increased the diet budget. The allowance has increased from Rs240 to Rs400 for state level championship, Rs300 for district level and rs240 for block level events. And for the sports persons who are competing outside the state, the diet money has been raised to Rs 500.

HP is all set to take extensive measures to improve the quality of education, along with focus more on the sports and overall wellbeing of students.
