Heatwave Holidays annulled in assam as weather improves

Due to extreme heat waves in Kamrup and Guwahati, Assam, the Office of the District Elementary Education Officer today withdrew the order declaring holidays for pupils until September 27. The decision was made as a result of the state's improving weather. Starting on September 25, classes will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

On September 20, the district council issued an order closing all government and private schools until September 27 due to extreme heat waves in Guwahati and Kamrup, Assam. Protecting pupils from the harmful effects of the heatwave was the reason behind the decision. Extreme heat-related illness and fainting have been reported by kids in a number of state district schools.

The district administration changed school schedules prior to announcing the holidays in order to limit student's exposure during the busiest afternoon hours. The district schools in Assam have their hours rescheduled to 7.30 am to 12.30 pm. The state's heat wave also resulted in the cancellation of outdoor events and school assemblies.

Meanwhile, The Patna district administration of Bihar on Monday decided to keep 76 government schools closed till September 26 in order to ensure the safety of both children and instructors. The decision was made because, in some parts of the capital city, the Ganga river continues to flow above the danger level.

The increased water levels in the Ganga will cause "a total of 76 government schools across eight blocks of Patna district to remain closed," according to a letter issued by Patna District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh. The Disaster Management Department (DMD) reported that about 13.56 lakh people who live in low-lying areas are impacted by flood-like conditions in about 12 districts along the Ganga. It stated that 376 village panchayats have been affected, and many of the population have been evacuated to camps.
