The government schools in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh has launched new set of initiatives focusing at providing therapy and counselling services for specially-abled students. In his programme, the specially abled students will receive speech therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy directly within the school.

This initiative has begun in two blocks of Firozabad as a part of comprehensive education scheme to bring disabled students in the mainstream educational system. The District Coordinator for Integrated Education, Ajay Pandey emphasized the government’s dedication to inclusive education, pointing out that Rs 2 lakh has been allocated per school to acquire essential equipment for therapy.

The resource room serves many factors, offering occupational therapy to children in developing daily skills and to offer speech therapy to help children having difficulty in speaking. Additionally, with these therapies, the resource room will provide counselling session for parents. This counselling session will educate parents on ow to take care of their children at home, so that they can help students outside the school as well.

The responsibility of this initiative lies in the hands of school headmasters and nodal teachers. The programme’s allocation and management are overseen by district-level committee, chaired by the District Magistrate including District Basic Education Officer and other officials. This initiative marks a major milestone towards promoting advanced development and integration of specially-abled children into the mainstream education system.

The effectiveness of these resource rooms, equipment for physiotherapy will be purchased, to help and support specially-abled children. Trained physiotherapists will be allocated to provide the respective services, so that all children will receive appropriate care.
