DU to Offer Korean, Chinese, and Japanese Courses at Three Affiliated Colleges

On October 10, the Academic Council will convene to deliberate on a range of policy recommendations and review work that has been authorized by the Vice Chancellor.

There are plans to provide advanced diploma and certification programs in East Asian languages at three colleges affiliated with Delhi University. The university's Academic Council has received a policy proposal from Ramjas College, Hansraj College, and Ram Lal Anand College introducing the new courses.

On October 10, the Academic Council will convene to deliberate on a range of policy recommendations and review work that has been authorised by the Vice Chancellor.

The proposal states that Hansraj College intends to offer a Certificate Course in Chinese (CP-1), along with Diploma courses in Korean (KP-2) and Japanese (JP-2), and that Ramjas College will offer an Advanced Diploma in Korean (KP-3). The Advanced Diplomas in Chinese (CP-3) and Japanese (JP-3) will be available at Ram Lal Anand College.

The colleges will offer these courses under the East Asian Studies Department. The Faculty of Social Sciences, August 7 meeting recommendations were taken into consideration while deciding to offer these diploma and certificate programs. On the agenda item to be presented at the Academic Council meeting, it stated, "The Faculty of Social Sciences recommended the introduction of East Asian language courses at Ramjas College, Hansraj College, and Ram Lal Anand College under the Department of East Asian Studies."

In addition to several linked colleges offering diploma and certification programs in these languages, the DU already has specific departments for a number of foreign languages. Delhi University has made a major advancement in the promotion of East Asian languages with the addition of these certification and diploma programs. The institution reacts to the growing interest in these languages and equips students for possibilities around the world by providing these courses. A final meeting of the Academic Council will be essential to completing these projects and improving the quality of education.
