In midst of disagreements between Delhi University and its affiliate St Stephen’s College, Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh has established a committee to hold conversation with college administration. A panel constituting of three members have been formed which will communicate with the college principal John Varghese on the alleged discard of the university rules by the college administration, as per the official statement.

The university of Delhi (DU) and St Stephen’s have had disagreements and concerns for a long time over the policy implantation disputes. Recently, the two were again on different sides, when the college refused to admit 12 students over its sanctioned seat limit under the DU’s newly introduced single-girl child quota. Numerous students under the unreserved category were refused admission as well, it was disregarding the DU’s extra allocations formula adopted for optimal filling of seats.

Post a legal battle, some of the students were admitted by the college. In a meeting held on Thursday, the V-C constituted the committee, which included three professors. They will communicate with the college principal for a resolution on the issue.

In the meeting, DU’s Institutional Developmental Plan (IDP) 2024 and Strategic Plan -- two key perspective plan documents of the university that charts out its short-term and long-term plans got approved and passed in midst of some objections by a section of the professors.

DU and St Stephens have often been in disputes, it revolves around the college’s admissions process.  St. Stephen's had historically used a combination of entrance tests, interviews, and character certificates to select students, however in 2022 , DU mandated the use of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admissions to affiliated colleges. This discrepancy has often led to legal battles and tension between the two institutions. The conflicts have been over recruitment, admissions and other curriculum , At the end it gets resolved and so is hoped for this disagreement as well.
