Donation of Rs 228 crore was received by an alumnus of IIT Madras

IIT Madras received a donation of Rs 228 crore by Krishna Chivula, an alumnus of IIT Madras.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has received a donation of Rs 228 crore from Krishna Chivukula, founder and CEO of Indo MIM Technology Private Limited and a proud alumnus of this institute. This donation will be used for supporting international students at the institute through scholarships and fellowship to undergraduate freshers.

On Tuesday, an academic block was named after Krishna Chivukula, who graduated with an MTech in aerospace engineering with a major in jet propulsion from IIT-M in Madras. He also has an MBA degree from The Harvard Business School (1980) and was awarded a doctor of letters (D.Lit.) degree from Tumkur University in 2012. In 1984 after his MBA, he returned to Hoffman Industries as a Group President and CEO. He established 2 number one companies in succession which is Shiva Technologies Incorporations and Indo MIM Technology Private Limited.

V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT-M, said, “That our alumnus still remembers his alma mater after several decades reinforces the fact that education is the only immortal wealth that we can give to mankind. Grateful to Mr. Chivukula for his big contribution, which will benefit several future generations of students in their pursuit of knowledge.”

Further in the press conference Krishna Chivukula said “I am hoping this will ignite a spark and culture of giving to our own country and our own people. I am lighting a bigger fire (donation) to make a difference".

He also stated that his BTech in IIT Bombay and MTech in IIT Madras has played a significant role in accomplishing so much in life that he could give back to the university through this generous donation.
