Delhi Government School searches for gifted students in classes 6 and 9.

With yet another progressive initiative towards education, the Delhi iniated Abhishikt. It a project on gifted and Talented Students. It is a pilot project of the Delhi education department and the State Council of Educational Research and Training. The students will appear for a psychological tests and IQ assessments to identify and assess gifted students.
Such students will then be provided accelerated learning in 15 designed CBSE school. Here the teachers will teach a specially designed curriculum. The project was announced on March 6 , it initiated December.

A team of dedicated educators , teachers and senior administrators from IEB visted the Jnana Prabodhini Institute. It is situated in Pune , it has a programme specifically curated for gifted children.

Stuti Gaur, an IEB official who is the senior project coordinator, told: “Students who are gifted, have special talents or high ability, often go unnoticed and unnurtured since they are only seen as good academic performers.” The social and emotional needs of such students remain unfulfilled, she added.

On September 28, 2024, around six thousand students from classes 6 and 9 appeared for the Culture Fair Intelligence Test (CIFT) - the first round. As for class 6 around 172 cleared the test. For class 9 the results are yet to be announced.

The 6,000 students were nominated on the basis of what the principals recommend. It was based on a behaviour checklist provided by IEB. It covered five development domains which were physical,social,moral, intellectual and emotional.
The next level will be to conduct a standardised IQ assessment test. For this step, consent of parents were required. And for the same, an orientation was organized on October 15 and October 16.

The finalisation of the 15 government schools who will execute this programme is still under process. The schools will follow the CBSE curriculum with additional created content.
