The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an official notice directing principals and heads of CBSE-affiliated schools. It is about laying importance on the strict enforcement of the 75 percent attendance rule. It is applicable for class 10 and 12 students who are appearing in the 2025 board examinations.

The notice reinforces the adherence to rules 13 and 14 of the CBSE Examination Bye-Laws, highlighting the importance of student attendance.

As per the guidelines of Board, the students must maintain at least 75 percent attendance to be able to appear for the Board examination.
The exceptions however will be made in some specific situations such as medical emergencies, participations in national or international sports events or any other significant reasons. It is mandatory to submit valid documentation for the same. In such cases the students may receive up to a 25 percent relaxation.

The schools have been asked to inform both the students and parents about the compulsory attendance rule and along with, the consequences of its non-compliance.

Once the records for attendance have been submitted to CBSE, no further revisions will be allowed. The attendance will be calculated up to
January 1 of the respective academic session.
In addition, the Board has also issued Standard Operating procedures (SOPs) for managing the attendance shortages and with that Pro-forma as well, that students will use when submitting cases for condonation.
