Bihar introduces new transfer policy for government teachers

Bihar introduces a new transfer policy for government teachers across the state. The priority has been given to teachers with medical concerns.

The Bihar Government on Monday, October 7 introduced a new policy for the transfer and posting of government school teachers across the state. Under the policy, priority has been given to those with who have medical concerns, like serious illness and disability.

All the applications related to transfers will be receive online only, to ease the process. The state education minister Sunil Kumar stated while introducing the policy.  

“The new transfer policy will bring uniformity to transfers and postings of teachers of government schools in the state. It will not only provide relief to teachers but will also improve the quality of education,” Kumar stated.

Under the policy, emphasis is laid on the teachers with health issues.

“Teachers who are seriously ill, handicapped, widowed, divorced, living alone, or in a husband-wife teacher pair will get preference during transfers,” the minister said.

In addition, the minister said that the number of female teachers in any school should not exceed 70.

The teachers must be transferred every five years of their posting and the department will offer 10 options for the posting locations. It will ensure the placements in the nearest subdivision or district he mentioned.

Moreover, the new policy has cleared the way for transfer and posting of around 1.80 lakh teachers who qualified the competency tests across the state.

However, the policy is not applicable to teachers who have been appointed by the local municipal bodies, who did not pass the competency test. The competency test is an exam for educators employed by local bodies in Bihar who want to recruitment for the positions of government school teachers.

“It will only be applicable to teachers selected through Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), government teachers and those who have passed mandatory tests," Kumar said.

The new policy will ensure smooth and successful transfers of teachers across the state. The priority will be given to the teachers with medical concerns. The policy is not applicable to the teachers who did not clear the competency test.
