Bihar Government to Introduce MBBS Course in Hindi Next Academic Year

In a landmark move, the Bihar government has announced the introduction of MBBS courses in Hindi, making it the second state to offer medical education in the vernacular language after Madhya Pradesh. This initiative, set to commence in the upcoming academic session, aims to make medical education more accessible to Hindi-speaking students.

State Health Minister Mangal Pandey revealed the decision on Tuesday, highlighting that the new Hindi course will adhere to the AIIMS Delhi syllabus for students who clear the NEET UG 2024 exam. He emphasized that this historic step, undertaken under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, involved extensive discussions on ensuring the availability of Hindi textbooks for the MBBS course.

Pandey stated, "The Health Department of Bihar, guided by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has taken this historic step after thorough discussions on the necessary aspects, including the availability of Hindi textbooks for the MBBS course. This decision aligns with the government's goal of promoting Hindi and making it a global language."

Bihar, home to approximately 85,000 government schools where Hindi is the primary medium of instruction, sees this move as a significant step towards promoting the language and making medical education more inclusive. The first state to implement such a program was Madhya Pradesh, where Education Minister Vishwas Sarang announced the Hindi MBBS programme last year. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also previously launched Hindi MBBS course materials in the state.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the use of Hindi in professional courses, ensuring that language is not a barrier to accessing quality medical education.
