The state of Assam at present has improved weather conditions after rain, now the school timings will resume back to normal, from October 1,2024.
The decision in past week was taken in consideration to safeguard students from this extreme weather. On September 20,2024 the Office of the District Elementary Education issued an order. It had announced adjustments to school schedules for the institutions affiliated with AHSEC, SEBA, AICSE and CBSE. The purpose was to minimize the impact of the ongoing heatwaves on students.
As per the order, the schools will now begin at 8 in the morning. For assemblies, they were to be held indoors with reduced durations. Schools were advised to make sure there is proper ventilation in classrooms. They were asked to organize alternate power backups in case there was outages. Moreover, students are given permission to wear sandals instead of shoes and may forgo waistcoats or ties for comfort.
Moreover, the DEEO had also ordered the closure of all schools in the district from September 24 to 27 due to the extreme heat.
Assam was experiencing heatwave conditions. Temperatures have soared above normal, reaching 38°C in some areas. This early heatwave is unusual for Assam, which typically experiences cooler weather during this time of year. The guidelines were in effect until further notice, as authorities work to combat the ill effects of the heatwave. Preventing students from falling ill, dehydration or any other harmful effects.
Now that the weather conditions have improved, the school timings will be back to normal.
The DEEO's latest order states, "It is hereby instructed that all Government/Provincialized/Private schools under Kamrup Metro district shall follow their regular normal school timing w.e.f 1st October 2024."These adjustments may vary depending on the specific region and the intensity of the heatwave.
